INSANITY the Asylum Back to Core Review

insanity the asylum back to core reviewI still remember my first day that I put the DVD in for Back to Core. I thought to myself: “Oh boy, here we go, my abs are about to HURT!” I was wrong. But, what are we really working out here then? Well, in my INSANITY the Asylum Back to Core Review, I’ll let you know!

As you will quickly find out if you plan to do, or are doing, the Asylum, it’s about body control. Another thing you’ll learn is that the back is your foundation for strength. I did so many strange moves in the Back to Core workout that I never saw before. But what was AMAZING is that my back felt 1000x greater the next day. Not only that, I can feel my back strengthening, and at the same time my core is tightening up. Why? INSANITY The Asylum Back to Core, of course!

So, let’s get started with the review:

INSANITY the Asylum Back to Core Review – The Video of the Moves

Check out this crazy video of my moves. I want to first put a disclaimer if this is your first time to SharpeFIT.com. This site is dedicated to fitness of the Average Person. I do not do these moves like an elite superstar. I’m no olympic athlete. I’m just an average dude don’t some crazy moves. Therefore, see how I do the moves if you are just learning. Perhaps they can help you maximize your efforts:

INSANITY the Asylum Back to Core Review – The Warm-Up

This workout is all about muscle control and muscle endurance. When we think about our core, we often think about abs, abs, ABS! Well, there is more to the puzzle. In fact, if you want abs and aren’t getting them with those sit-ups, your foundation could be weak. Back to Core will help you work on that. Get ready to focus a lot on your back, a little on your abs, a bit on your obliques, and a lot on your shoulders.

Tools Needed:

  • Mat
  • Power Band (definitely recommended, click here to get them as they aren’t included in the Asylum package)

The Warm-Up moves preview:

  • Back-Fly Jumping Jacks – This is in the video and it’s taking your arms straight out in front of you, and then opening them wide as you do the jumping jack. Keep in mind you should focus on trying to bring your shoulder blades together in the back.
  • Double Up/Double Back Back-Fly Jumping Jacks – Same as this first move, only you are jumping twice with your arms in front, twice with your arms in the back.
  • Overhead Jacks – think about jumping jacks. This time instead of just putting your arms up and down by your sides, you want to clap at the top and then clap at the bottom below your back. This is a great move to get your chest warmed-up while also getting your shoulders moving!
  • Double Up/Double Back – same as with Back-Fly jumping jacks, only with Overhead jacks!
  • Shoulder Blade Jacks – again, think about that jumping jack. Now, instead of moving your arms up and down on your side, reverse it to the other way. This means putting your arms out in front of you, and flying them back behind your back. Just be careful because if you aren’t as limber yet, it will take some time to get the hang of this move.
  • Double Up/Double Back – You get the jist now, right?
  • Monkey Squats – now you get to stretch a bit. It’s like doing a squat only you take your time!! This is in the video above if you want to check out what the move looks like.

My overall thoughts on the warm-up: this is a warm-up for those in love with jumping jacks!! You definitely do a lot of them. That’s for sure. I liked the monkey squats at the end since I was able to enjoy the slow flexibility of the move. A lot of times we just do squats too quickly. Let’s face it, we are in the heat of the workout and moving quickly. Well, this is the time to center-in your focus on the squats and work on improving flexibility and elasticity.

INSANITY the ASYLUM Back to Core Review -  The Workout Review

Overall I liked this workout. While I’m a bit of an ab-junkie, it was nice to focus on your back foundation. I struggle with lower back pain from time-to-time. How I feel after this workout makes me feel like I just went to heaven! This can definitely be a workout for someone looking to improve shoulders and back.

My most favorite move in this workout would have to be the Rotator Split Lunge. There are a few reasons that I absolutely love this move:

  1. You will definitely work on your obliques and core (twisting from side to side in a forward-facing lunge will do that to you!)
  2. You work your shoulders out hardcore. If by the end of the iso-hold and the pulse moves you aren’t crying for your mommy – you aren’t doing the move!
  3. You will work on your foundation and endurance. This is the key to building up muscle stamina for those harder moves. Which bring: Faster Results!

Are you doing INSANITY the Asylum or thinking about it? If so here are a few important things I recommend:

  • Get yourself ready by doing P90X or INSANITY first. Don’t jump right into this workout if you are not fit. If you have weight to lose, can’t run a mile under 10 minutes, I wouldn’t recommend it to start off with personally. Check out the Beachbody Challenge Packs as an option to find the best program for you.
  • Get the power bands. I decided to save the money when I first started Asylum, but regretted not getting them. Click here to get the Power Bands – they are very important!
  • Eat the right nutrition! Just face it that you’ll need to open up that nutrition guide that is included in the program and follow it 100%. Nutrition is the name of the game. Don’t worry, for an average guy like myself, this wasn’t easy. But when I started getting my act together with food: my workouts got easier, my weight dropped, and I now feel SO much better.

I hope you enjoyed my review on INSANITY Asylum Back to Core. I definitely like this workout and I’m loving the program. Comment below and let me know what you think, and click the social media sharing buttons to share this with those you care about!
