THE GAME IS ON! On your Mark – Get SET – GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I’m telling you right now, INSANITY the Asylum Game Day Review is not for everyone, but DANG is it motivating. I’ve done many programs before, including the popular P90X and INSANITY. But never, EVER have I been so motivated! Shaun T (Asylum Trainer, and the dude pictured above) does this one right!

From the moment  you pop in the Game Day DVD, you feel like you’re entering a big game. And don’t worry, you’ll be at a lot of different sporting events. World Series? Check. Super Bowl? Check. Olympics? Check. Random things like Surfing? You got it. CHECK.

INSANITY the Asylum Game Day Review – What I LOVED!

There are definitely a few moves that I absolutely fell in love with. There is no doubt that Game Day is tough. But the motivation behind these moves are what make it FUN!

Shaun T. comes out of the box saying that Team Asylum is undefeated. He makes you feel like you are part of the team. As your going through these moves, he says things at the perfect time. For example: Right when you are ready to take that break halfway through a move, he says something like “You’re about the win the gold for the team, are you strong enough to do it?” Whoa! With something said like that, it makes me want to push harder to win that gold. Strong enough to do it!! Hell yeah! (Insert heavy breathing here)

A few of the moves that I loved included:

  • 1 Mile Race – I’ll be honest with you guys and say that I hate running. Never loved it. But the first move is the 1 mile race. In high school I used to do the mile in about 10 mins. Shaun T gives you about 6.5 minutes. You’ll be running up hills and down hills too all within your tiny workout spot! This is where the motivation takes off. The last minute is when he paints a picture for you: You’ve arrived at the stadium, everyone is cheering for you, run to to the finish line! Awesome.
  • Soccer Kicks – COOL! I love this move mainly because I love workout out my lower abs and hip flexors. These are the two muscle groups that are the hardest to lose fat and get ripped on (you know…the love handles). The soccer kicks give you a great opportunity to work these two muscle groups out nicely.
  • Speed Skating – for some reason, I just love this move. It’s hard, and I have yet to get through the whole thing without short breaks, but it’s great. You fold your agility ladder in half, and then put your hand inside one part of the ladder. The same leg goes out to the side (for example: left arm in ladder, left leg goes out). You then go back and forth just like you are sprinting down the speed skating event in the Olympics. Halfway through you coast which is awesome too and really works that IT Band.

INSANITY the Asylum Game Day Review – What I HATED!

Of course in all good things there are also bad things. What I hated about Game Day is just a few moves. Overall, it’s one of my most favorite workouts. But seriously, it has some hard moves. These include:

  • Rock Climbing – quite honestly this entire sequence was frustrating to me. I’m sure some people love it, and yes it works out your abs very well. But still, it is horrible. I think the reason for my harsh opinion on this is because it is near the end of the workout and you’re already burned out. That and the moves just seem to be more within the world of “mountain rock climbing” than any other sport.
  • Swimming – this is just a personal thing. I struggle with my back. That is why Back to Core is so important. But regardless, the swimming maneuvers really push me to my limits.

INSANITY the Asylum Game Day Review – Things YOU need to Consider!

Here are a few helpful hints on how to survive Game Day if you are planning to do INSANITY Asylum:

  1. Get good shoes. There are a lot of high impact exercises in here that need stable fitness shoes or at least running shoes.
  2. Have a decent padded ground. I wouldn’t use a nice carpeted floor (like push carpet) because you’ll probably tear it up. But, a nice padded surface would be beneficial to your jumping and high impact exercise.
  3. Eat at least an hour before you do this workout. You’ll need the energy! Get a good meal in and wait about an hour so you can harness the energy and give Game Day your all.
  4. Definitely consider drinking at least the Results and Recovery formula. You’ll need it to recovery after this crazy workout!
