Vacation Fitness

What’s up everyone! Today I’m preparing to go on vacation as we travel north to visit family and friends for this next week. Once I’m back I will update all of you on my INSANITY journey as well as some great success that both Cristen (my wife) and I have experienced by being a Beachbody Coach. In fact, this is the first vacation in a while that I don’t need to worry about putting everything on a credit card or stressing out about how we are going to pay for this time off. By earning the extra income from participating as a Beachbody Coach, we are paying cash for it all!

But, for those who were following my blog, I’ve been working out with INSANITY workout program. I am extending my phase 2 journey because, quite frankly, I haven’t been able to stick with it day-in and day-out. BUT, the good news is, I’m still seeing great results! From a strengthened core, to the ability to run and have more stamina, this program WORKS!

But this gets me thinking…do you suffer with your fitness or weight loss goals when the big “V” word approaches? That is, VACATION! You save up your money and take the time off, but the fitness program you’ve been doing so well at gets forced to the back seat during this time off!! Well, I’m going to share what my plan is for this vacation, and give you some tips that I have followed over the last 2 years since I lost (and kept off) 70 pounds from my “fat” days 🙂

Vacation Fitness – How to stay Committed

There are many different vacations that people take. Perhaps its a cruise? Perhaps its to another state to visit family? Or maybe you are going to the beach for the weekend?

Regardless, I have found that if you get into the mental mindset before you go on vacation that you will stay committed to your weight loss and fitness, better things will happen.

Taking my current vacation as an example, I have the benefit of working out at my friend’s home while we are up north. He has a sweet set-up with a projector and large room in his basement! In fact, we are planning to work out with INSANITY together (it’s all about motivation and accountability!!). Matt is also a coach on Team SharpeFit.com and he is the man!

Now let’s face it, if you’re on a cruise boat or at the beach, the likelihood of traveling to a friends house is slim-to-none. No Problem!

Vacation FitnessLet’s say you are taking a cruise or going to a place like France or the Beach. You can find ways to stay committed, even if it requires staying up late or waking up early to get yourself set-up. I know that Carnival Cruise lines include an awesome weight and exercise room on each boat (see the picture to the right). Pretty snazzy, huh? And just think, those windows look out over the ocean!! What an awesome way to get a run on a treadmill while watching for dolphins. Two words: SWEET LIFE!

As for France or the beach, you can consider taking a run on the beach. Or, if you spend enough time jumping the waves in the ocean, you’ll get a good workout. I love doing that!! And just think, if you take a run around France in the morning, you get fitness and some good sight seeing all at once! Awesome.

If you are doing things like P90X or INSANITY, you could always do those programs in the hotel room as long as the walls and floors aren’t thin! I’m sure your neighbors may get perturbed, especially if you’re jumping around early in the morning. But, sometimes you may not have the resources available to do the at-home workout programs. No worries, try going for a run, or use the hotel/cruise boats exercise rooms. The point is, keep trucking along, watch the food, and make the most out of your vacation.

Until I return next week, have a GREAT week everyone!
