P90X Review: Kenpo X

P90X Kenpo X ReviewYesterday I took on Kenpo X, and I really love this workout. I did other kickboxing and martial arts exercise programs in the past, but they really didn’t work. I think the reason why they didn’t work for me, is because its the same program day in and day out (call it “Exercise ADHD” if you will). Same jokes, same timing, same old thing (talk about the Plateau effect!). What’s nice about P90X is that I can enjoy Kenpo once per week, and say hello to other variations and workouts on the other days! This leads me to today, my P90X Kenpo X Review

Kenpo is a form of Karate within Japanese Martial Arts. The Americanized version, which you’ll see in P90X Kenpo X, is the mixture of Chinese, Japanese, and Martial Arts (formed in Hawaii some years ago).

The thing I laugh at is when it says “BREAK” as the next move. Does that mean it’s time for a Break with P90X Kenpo X? Absolutely not! You’re running, doing jumping jacks, and jumping in the air! Can someone say Calorie Burner?? This workout is prime for those who are using P90X to lose weight!!!

My favorite exercises in this program include the block series (horse stance, blocking with your arms, picture blocking someone from punching you in the face, that is inevitably what this is!). High Block, Downward Block, inward block, etc. etc. I absolutely love doing them, and then combining them all together in the Star block move at the end! By the end of this workout, you’ll feel the weight falling off, especially if you really bring it! And if you can’t do all of the moves, especially the X jumps during the break, just do your best. The ultimate goal that I always stuck with during my period of losing weight with P90X was ensuring that I was feeling it and that I was sweating! As long as you have both of those, you’ll see results (and you’ll notice that you can consistently do more and more to get up to that sweat as your performance improves).

When this workout becomes “Easy” – P90X Kenpo X Review

I’ve heard that this can happen with Kenpo X and guess what? It did with me!! Once I lost weight and got into shape, I was looking for more to gear up to my current goal of getting ripped. So, what I did to up the intensity of this workout is adding 5lb wrist weights to each arm! The punches are extreme, the break is intense, and I get the burn I was originally benefiting from on my first round of the program! I suggest giving this a try when you reach this level. If you don’t like that and want more, give a try to Kenpo Cardio Plus, which is one of the P90X+ workouts that was released in 2007.
