INSANITY The Asylum Speed and Agility Day 1

Today is my official Day 1 of INSANITY the Asylum. Today I’ll be experiencing what it is like to go from Average to Elite. Or to go from Joe Smoe to Olympic Athlete! Yesterday I did my Athletic Performance Assessment which told me one thing: I’m out of shape! Yep, BIG TIME! In 2010 I lost 70 pounds with the popular P90X program which was awesome. But in order to play with the elite Olympians of INSANITY the Asylum, I have some work to do!

Check out my video first. I then have some notes on my first day with Asylum to follow!

INSANITY The Asylum – Overall thoughts and details on the First Day of Speed and Agility

First and foremost, the crazy little yellow ladder is a silent and deadly killer! It looks like it’s all fun and games, but it will work you out to the extreme. What I like about it the most though is that it provides the ability to really tap into maximizing your moves. For example, when you are simply just doing a move, you don’t get the opportunity to measure if you are really doing the move to your maximum. With the ladder, you’ll know based on if you are hitting the ladder a lot or if you are simply half-@#*ing the workout 🙂

The second thing is my heart rate! I think it is always crucially important to monitor your heart rate with any and all workouts. Why? You can determine your level of success. With INSANITY (the original program) and P90X, my heart rate would average around 145-150, and peak around 172 BPM during the cardio workouts. With INSANITY the Asylum Speed and Agility: average heart rate of 163-165 BPM with a peak of 178 BPM. That is awesome for my body type and expectations!

A few things I need to FIX as I move forward: I need to clean out my garage a bit more! Do you agree based on the video above? Because I’m so tall (6 foot, 7 inches), I need more room. With jumping down, doing pushups, flying through the air, and all of the other crazy moves, I need the space.

Second thing to consider is getting better shoes. My shoes were sliding all over the place and it was getting a bit annoying. Go figure, I have a pool of sweat beneath me, so it gets harder to have a good grip on the floor!!

That is it for today. I’m taking daily pictures of my stomach area, in hopes that I will keep edging towards the goal of “ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS SOME SIX PACK ABS!” Of course, it’s going to be hard with all of these holiday cookies that will tempt me 🙂 I need your support!! Comment, like, share, and use the social media buttons below. And most importantly, thank you for your support! If you want to join me in this quest, send me a note at bob@sharpefit.com and I’ll get you added into your physical transformation.

With love and sweat,
