P90X2 Review: My Experience with Chest + Back + Balance in Phase 2!

P90X2 ReviewWOW this one works you! Phase 2 of P90X2 is very similar to P90X in many ways. First of all, I noticed that the workout flow is similar by having a strength workout, followed by cardio (Plyo), followed-by Yoga, followed-by another set of strength. Of course, we also get to enjoy X2 Ab Ripper on three days instead of just one!

The first week I did this workout, I could barely do the moves!! How could Chest and Back in P90X seem so easy now, but yet Chest + Back + Balance presents a whole new set of challenges? Like Tony says, “That’s the beauty of it!”

What is even better than that, is when I woke up the next morning, I had a good sore feeling! Sure, some people don’t like that feeling. However, to me, feeling sore is a sense of accomplishment of yesterday’s work! I know in time it’ll get better and I’ll get stronger!

P90X2 Review: What moves did I like during the P90X2 Review of Chest + Back + Balance?

  • Plyo Stability Ball Push-Up: KILLER! I was a floppy seal in the beginning (actually I still am), but I went from 5 reps in the 1st week to 18 reps this week (Week #3). This move really works your entire upper-body. I have a video of me with this move that I’ll post below my review. Be sure to check it out!
  • P90X2 ReviewPush-Up Side Arm Balance: This is a repeat move from Total Body X2. I love this move…push-ups on medicine balls! I find this move beneficial for two reasons. First, it provides me with the ability to go deeper into my push-ups, since your hands are elevated from the ground. The second thing, is that I’m improving my overall body balance by having to do the push-ups on the medicine balls!
  • The Impossible/Possible: I’m still on the “Impossible” part of this move…but I like it, and I’m fired up about making it a “Possible” move 🙂 I started Week 1 with a measly THREE, with only 1 leg on the stability ball. I found that the medicine ball was a little tricky when it comes down to maintaining my balance on the stability ball. So what I’ve done is modified this move a bit. What I did was put both of my feet on the stability ball, and put my hands on the floor rather than the med balls. Now I can rock it out with 18 reps while I improve my lower-body balance. Next week I’m going to try the med ball!

P90X2 Review: What moves did I hate??

Not everything is amazing, right? Here are the moves I really struggled with in Chest + Back + Balance:

  • Lever: Pull-ups are my enemy!! Now I have to do it with my body flat???? That is very hard. One of these days I will conquer the pull-up craze. I remember in High School I’d always be that guy that got the Easter egg (0) for my Pull-Ups during the national president’s athletic test. Now I’m proud to say I can actually do pull-ups, but the specialty pull-ups fire me up!
  • 3-Ball Plyo Push-Up: I hate this one because it hurt me! But of course that is my own fault. I attempted to be a hero and make this happen as if I was Tony Horton. Of course, I ended up falling on my left elbow today….OW! Hopping back and forth in plank and doing push-ups between two balls in an arc-shape is hard….
  • Chattarocker: I hate this one because I want to master it so badly. The move alone looks pretty badass! I’d love to make it look as easy as everyone does on the video, but I’m not there yet. What I can do is push my feet back and go from Plank to Sphinx and back. But I can’t go from Chattarunga to Sphinx. I came to the conclusion today that it has to be more core….gotta keep improving that!

P90X2 Review: Chest + Back + Balance Wrap-Up

No matter how hard this workout is and how much I modified, I still feel like I did a lot and felt sore afterwards! I’m glad I was able to continue to support my nutrition with E&E before and P90X Results & Recovery Formula afterwards! That stuff is SO good….why didn’t I do it before!!! (The famous lines of course…why didn’t we do this earlier!)

So that is Chest Back and Balance! I’ll be blogging soon about my experience with X2 Shoulders & Arms, so subscribe to my blog and get ready!
