INSANITY Max Interval Sports Training

It’s GAME DAY everyone. Today I completed the INSANITY Max Interval Sports Training workout, and it was awesome. This particular workout is something you can get when you buy INSANITY deluxe kit through Beachbody. It is a very different workout compared to all of the other INSANITY workouts by far, which I’ll explain in just a moment.

This workout specifically mixes up what you may have gotten used to in the second phase of INSANITY. It starts with the warm-up! Most of the workouts in INSANITY start with a jog, and include some variations on heisman, 1-2-3, jumping jacks, and sometimes jump rope. Well, in Max Interval Sports training, you start off with jump roping. Then, you do a variation on switch kicks (heel kicks) while jump roping. Last but not least, you do the side-to-side jump ropes. I’ll be honest, it was nice to have a change in the workout after a lot of similarity in the warm-ups.

INSANITY Max Interval Sports Training – My Review

This workout is awesome as it really feels like you’re a sports champion ready to take on the Olympics! There are five different sports that you take on. They include: Boxing, Football, Basketball, Gymnastics, and Track & Field.

What I liked about this workout is that you get the opportunity to take everything you worked on developing within INSANITY and apply it to the sports. I’d say that the thing I liked the least about it is the breaks in between each move. Yes, trust me, breaks are important (especially with a crazy program like INSANITY), but really it comes down to keeping a fast pace. This particular workout tends to take quite a few breaks in between each move.

Sport #1: Boxing

  • Jab Across (alternating left & right, 1 & 1, 2 & 2, 4 & 4, and 8 & 8). When you first start out with the 1&1 jab across, you might feel a bit dizzy! At least I did 🙂
  • Uppercuts (same thing as jab across, increasing the interval 1, 2, 4, and 8). This is a great move and really works your abs and your arms very well.
  • 8 Jabs / 8 Power Jumps: YES this is the crazy move within this sport. Buckle-up ladies & gentlemen, I couldn’t get through this one. I’ll be working at it!

Sport #2: American Football

  • Football Drills: I have to admit that football gets the best of me. I tried very hard to own this sport, but I think it owned me. In football drills you go in a wide foot sprint, and when Shaun T. says “hit the deck” get down into low plank and do 8 moves to the right, and then 8 moves to the left!
  • Tricep Pulses: start in low plank and literally pulse up and down. Your triceps will BURN! Its all good 🙂
  • Tackle: Low squat, hopping and hugging four times to the left and another four times to the right. This one is a bit of a recovery in my opinion, even though it is still tough on the surface.
  • Offensive Line Elbow: Same move as the tackle, only this time you are throwing your elbow in a stance of offense in a football match.

Sport #3: Basketball

  • Three Point Shot: You throw 8 three point shots into the basket, and then run around the 3-pt line and shoot again! Not a bad move at all, and really works your quads.
  • Guard Drills: Your offense team is about to rebound the ball. It is your job to push them away from the basket! That is essentially what this move is all about. Low squat, jumping back pushing your opposing team member out of the winner’s shot!
  • Suicide Drills: Oh you can’t have an INSANITY Deluxe workout without suicides of course! Run back and forth, touching the ground. Quick feet!
  • Basketball Dribble: Imagine the alternating lunges, front-to-back, and now dribbling a ball under your legs. That is what this move is all about.

Sport #4: Gymnastics (along with Ab Moves)

  • Pike Position Jump: This is putting your legs into the air while your arms stay on the floor. Your butt can be in the air, and the goal is to jump up and land with your knees bent. Good ab workout!
  • Pendulum: Similar to the pike position jump only this helps with your obliques big time! The move is swinging your feet back and forth while in the pike position.
  • 6 Inches: Just like the name. Raise those legs 6 inches and let your abs burn until Shaun T. tell you to rest.
  • Flutter Kicks: kicking your feet in an alternating fashion while balancing on your butt!
  • Scissors: where your feet are 6 inches off of the floor and scissoring left and right.

Sport #5: Track & Field

Ok everyone, this sport is all about ladders. Climbing invisible ladders with your knees up in the air. You do this for intervals of 15, 30, 45, 60 seconds.

This means that you start with high knees (ladders) for 15 seconds. Take a break. Now 30 seconds. Take a break. Now 45 seconds. Take a break. Now 60 seconds. Take a break. Now 45 seconds. Take a break (and back down to 15 seconds). The break periods in between? Only about 10-15 seconds max… 🙂
